WCV Resource Officer
My name is Sgt. Katie Guisinger and I'm the full time SRO (school resource officer) for West Central Valley School District and also a patrol sergeant for the Stuart Police Department.
I graduated from Loras College with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Mathematics. I spent the first part of my law enforcement career with Polk County as a detention officer in the jail division. I then took a break from law enforcement and worked in early childhood for a number of years, before returning to law enforcement as a police officer with the Stuart Police Department in 2017.
I started the SRO program, in partnership with WCV Schools, in 2019. Being an SRO is a perfect blend of my background of early childhood and law enforcement, areas that I love and enjoy for a variety of reasons. I enjoy building relationships with our younger students, as I believe this will help both students and myself, as we navigate the years ahead. My main focus as an SRO is to build relationships with students, staff and families and to be a resource as an informal counselor, educator and mentor to anyone that needs me.
I am currently a certified SRO, having passed NASRO's (National Association of School Resource Officers) Basic SRO and Advanced SRO courses. My next step is to become a nationally certified SRO Practitioner, which requires additional class hours and attending the national conference.
